Two units of transport caught fire following short circuits in the electric systems on July 7. Tatiana Corceac, spokeswoman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that a tractor T-16 started to burn when moving along the internal road that connects the villages Saptebani and Malaiesti in Rascani district. Before extinguished, the fire managed to destroy a part of the engine. The damage caused was assessed at about 8,000 lei. A Setra car caught fire on Padurilor Street in Chisinau at about 19.30 as a result of a short circuit in the TV set that was inside the vehicle. The damage caused has not been assessed yet. Another short circuit caused a fire in the entrance hall of an apartment building in Briceni town. The residents took measures and put out the fire quickly so that it damaged only the electric cables. The quoted source said that the increasing number of fires at people’s houses, caused mainly by the human factor, negligence when using the open fire favored by the wind and high temperatures, remains alarming. Out of the 12 fires reported yesterday, 9 occurred at peasants’ homes, where the fire destroyed bales of hay, sheds, and annexes. An auxiliary construction in Vadul lui Voda town and a shed for animals in Slobozia-Chiscareni village in Sangerei district burned to the ground. The firefighters established that the last fire was started intentionally. The police are now looking for the offenders. As many as 1,046 fires have happened in Moldova since the start of this year – 5.78 fires on average per day. They took the lives of 109 persons, six out of whom children.
