Two Turkish men sentenced in Moldova to 7 years in jail

Two citizens of Turkey were sentenced to 7 years’ imprisonment in Moldova after the prosecutors appealed the decision of the Cahul Court fining the offenders 500 conventional units (10,000 lei) each to a higher court, Info-Prim Neo reports. The decision was passed by the Penal Panel of the Cahul Court of Appeals. The prosecutors accused the two Turkish men of introducing 64 counterfeit 100 US dollar banknotes in Moldova in August 2008 for the purpose of putting them into circulation, the General Prosecutor’s Office says in a communiqué. The decision can be appealed.
