The Buiucani Court convicted two Turkish nationals to 11 years and, respectively, 6 years in jail in the case of Moldova’ largest heroine seizure. On the black market, the seized 200 kg of heroin cost over 200 000 000 lei.

The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) said it will challenge the decision of the ordinary court. PCCOCS’ press officer Emil Gaitur explained for IPN that the law allows imposing harsher punishment for such a crime and the prosecutors consider the perpetrators deserve a heavier penalty. Also, the prosecutors of PCCOCS will seek the expulsion of the two after they serve their sentences.

The court ordered to destroy the 200 kg of heroin and to confiscate 200 000 lei worth of Turkish men’s assets and obliged the two to pay over 40,000 lei court costs.

According to the investigation, the heroin was supposed to reach the European Union. For this purpose, the organizer, a Turkish national, had registered a company in Moldova for shipping construction materials and sanitary items from Iran. After working to create a positive trade record, the suspect started to implement the drug trafficking scheme.
