The Ministry of Education proposed teaching a number of subjects in Romanian at high schools for other-language speakers. Initially, the project will be implemented at 10 high schools that are yet to be chosen, Minister of Education Mihail Shleahtitski has told Info-Prim Neo.
The school administrations are to select the given subjects. The minister recommended teaching two-three subjects at the initial stage. It is important that the teachers are proficient in Romanian and have enough teaching aid in the Romanian language. Another important aspect is to get the parent’s consent.
”Romanian is the official language in Moldova and is mandatory for all the citizens of this country. We must improve the process of teaching Romanian in the education institutions, especially at schools for other language speakers. These institutions expressed readiness to intensify the teaching process in Romanian. This fact will contribute to better communication between the representatives of all the ethnic groups living in Moldova so that our country becomes more powerful,” said the minister.
After the project is tested starting with the new 2012-2013 school year, a national conference will be held to discuss the future actions. Mihail Shleahtitski said he would like those who criticize the initiative to take part in the discussions that will take place after the pilot project is completed.
