Two soldiers face jail terms for using violence against mates

The Cahul Military Prosecutor’s Office completed the investigation and sent to court the criminal case started against two conscript soldiers over use of violence against servicemen and violation of the statutory rues concerning the relations between soldiers, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO).

The investigation was conducted following an inspection carried out by military prosecutors from Cahul.

In the first case, the prosecutors established that on June 27, on the territory of the Brigade “Dacia”, a conscript soldier punched a mate in the face, causing him minor injuries. In the other case, one day later, a soldier kicked a colleague of his on the territory of the same military unit, breaking his left femur, which is considered a serious bodily injury.

The culprits face up to five and, respectively, 12 years in jail.

Statistics of the PGO show that the number of offenses committed in the Armed Forces decreased considerably in the first six months of this year. There were recorded 69 offenses, as against 96 in the corresponding period last year. Of the total number of offenses, 27 were violations of the statutory rules and use of violence. The military prosecutors in the period carried out 117 inspections and started 25 criminal cases.
