Two persons were arrested on suspicion that they stole two AK-74 guns from the arms depot of the Motorized Infantry Brigade located in Balti last December. The two are former servicemen who were recently put in reserve, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.

According to prosecutors, on December 12 one of the suspects, who formed part of the depot’s guard, broke the window and entered the storeroom, stealing the two guns. On December 16, the serviceman and a colleague of his, who were both put in reserve, took the guns out of the military units, transporting them home.

When questioned by prosecutors, the servicemen in reserve said they stole the guns for personal use. The Prosecutor’s Office accused the two of stealing and illegal keeping of firearms and asked for a warrant for putting the two under arrest for 30 days.

Within the investigation, the military prosecutors will also examine the conduct of the officials of the military unit where the incident occurred.
