The Pediatric Urology and Pediatric Gynecology sections of the Mother and Child Institute of Chisinau have been inaugurated after renovation. The repair works were financed by the Government of Romania, with funds from the Official Development Assistance managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, IPN reports.
According to the Embassy of Romania in Chisinau, the works form part of the project to renovate, rehabilitate and equip the maternity hospital and pediatric department of the Mother and Child Institute. The project that benefitted from €2.5 million worth of grants and was launched at the start of 2015 is to be completed in the second half of this year.
The inauguration was attended by Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ionita and Moldovan officials.
As many as 1,400 children with congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract and genetic diseases are annually admitted to the Pediatric Urology section. About 1,000 operations are performed there.
The Infant Gynecology section was opened in 1985, being the only one of its kind in Moldova. This can accommodate 20 patients, with about 800 persons younger than 18 being treated there annually.
The repair works began last August and cost about 4.4 million lei. The sections were renovated in accordance with the European standards and represent the clinical basis for training medical staff.
