Three pedestrians, including two children, suffered various injuries in three traffic accidents recorded yesterday on Chisinau roads, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Ion Roscovanu, a Road Safety Inspector of the Chisinau Traffic Police, the two children were injured during the mid afternoon hours while walking to or returning from school.
The first accident involved a third grade girl of school no.41 who was stricken by a Fiat car, driven by a 39-year-old woman, on Vasile Alecsandri Street. The girl suffered brain concussion and multiple bruises. Suffering similar injuries, another schoolgirl, 12, was hit in the intersection of Moscova Blvd and Matei Basarab Str by a Toyota car, driven by a 37-year-old man.
A 42-year-old female driver operating a Citroen vehicle struck a woman, 63, near the intersection of Bucuresti and Nicolae Iorga streets. The victim was admitted to hospital with brain concussion and excoriations.
Inspector Roscovanu urges parents to take precaution measures when sending their children to school. Statistics show that the most accidents involving children occur near bus and trolleybus stops. Usually, children attempt to run across the road, just in front of the moving cars. At the same time, drivers are urged to slow down while passing by bus stops.
Over the past day, 22 minor accidents were also recorded. Traffic agents fined 46 drivers for speeding, 102 for wrong maneuvering, and 42 for driving at the red color. 51 pedestrians were fined for jaywalking and 12 drivers lost their licenses after driving drunk.
