Two prosecutors will be tried for large-scale corruption. The two were arrested in 2018 together with a senior investigation officer of the Ciocana Police Inspectorate, an investigation officer and a deputy division head of the National Investigation Inspectorate, IPN reports.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said the culprits in 2017 allegedly received €70,000 and US$6,000 from the managers of a firm, after initially asking for €200,000, for setting them free from arrest, dropping the tax evasion case and the charges against the three businessmen.

If they are found guilty of passive corruption, the two prosecutors will serve seven to 15 years in jail and will be fined at most 500,000 lei and banned from holding particular public posts or performing particular activities for a period of 10 to 15 years. The other three culprits had been already convicted.
