Children's Ombudsman Tamara Plamadeala, was notified by the Prosecutor General's Office on January 15 of the initiation of criminal proceedings against two policemen on charges of mistreating a 11-year-old boy, Info-Prim Neo reports. In early December, Tamara Plamadeala requested the Prosecutor General's Office to investigate the case of a minor who alleged he had been ill-treated by police. The 11-year-old boy, suspected of burglarizing a house in Hancesti and stealing jewelry from it, was allegedly subjected to physical and psychological abuse by two policemen at the Hancesti Police Station. Ombudsman Plamadeala traveled to Hancesti to establish the circumstances of the case and found that the local law enforcement bodies had failed to conduct a proper internal investigation or initiate criminal proceedings. Besides requesting the investigation of the case, the children's ombudsman demanded that the Prosecutor General's Office should take action to counter abuses in police activity.
