The Prosecutor General’s Office completed the investigation and sent the criminal case against two police officers from Orhei, accused of use of torture, to court, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Office.

Last year, the policemen were informed by a woman that her partner was ill-treating her. The man was brought to the head office of the District Police Inspectorate, where he was punched and kicked cruelly. According to the medical-legal examination, the 44-year-old man suffered rib fractures, pulmonary contusion and ecchymosis in the left scapular part.

The policemen face 5 to 10 years in jail and will be banned from holding particular posts and from carrying out particular activities for a period of up to five years.

The acts of torture, inhuman or degrading treatment and punishment can be reported on the hotline of the Prosecutor General’s Office 022 279-457 or 022 273-027.
