EME Parkleitsystem GmbH Austria, which won the tender contest to set up paid parking places in Chisinau municipality, suggests two methods of paying for parking services – based on tickets and through the mobile phone, IPN reports.

In a news conference on April 19, representatives of the company said both of the systems enable to pay for parking when leaving. When drivers reach the parking lot, they will ask for a ticket that will indicate the parking hour and will make the payment when leaving. If the online application downloaded on the mobile phone is used, the drivers will scan the identification code to have the parking time measured.

To thwart attempts to avoid paying for parking, examiners will check the registration numbers of vehicles to see if the drivers have tickets and if the code was scanned. Those who will avoid paying for parking will be charged an extra tax that will have to be paid or the car’s wheels will be blocked. If the penalty is not paid during several days, the vehicle will be towed away by the police.

The inhabitants of Chisinau should ask for permits for free parking in the area where they live, within the limits of available places. Those who will not get such a permit will have to pay an annual season ticket for an estimated sum of 500 lei. Depending on the area, parking for an hour will cost 5 to 45 lei. A number of 200 examiners are to be employed to monitor the situation in parking lots.

Each evening after 8pm, until 10am, on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, parking places in the city will be free of charge. At the first stage, the firm plans to set up 25,000 parking places at a cost of €4 million. The company is waiting for the Chisinau Municipal Council to approve the regulations so that it can start building parking lots by delimiting and marking parking areas and placing signs.
