The Communist Party and the Liberal Democratic Party have announced the constitution of factions on the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC). The Liberal Party asked for a pause of ten days to form its faction and elect a chairperson, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Communist faction has 26 councilors and is headed by Boris Golovin. The faction’s deputy heads are Valery Pavlov, Elena Danu-Straistean and Natalia Vysotina. Ludmila Sevastin will act as secretary of the group. The Liberal-Democratic faction consisting of seven councilors is led by Ghenadie Dumanschi. Deputy chairpersons have not been named. Ghenadie Ivashchenko is the faction’s secretary. The request of the Liberal Party, which has 17 councilors, to be given time to constitute its faction was rejected. In this connection, the Liberal mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said the CMC’s regulations allow the parties to benefit from such a pause. “If you examine the archive, you will see how many days other political parties needed to set up factions,” he said. The Liberal Party is to announce the leader of its faction in the next meeting. The factions on the CMC must consist of at least three councilors. Thus, the only Democratic councilor Valentin Guznac is to decide whether to serve independently or to join one of the factions.
