Two women from Chisinau were swindled out of approximately 360,000 lei after being misinformed by scammers about their daughters’ involvement in road accidents. The money was to be used to help the young women avoid ‘legal responsibility’, IPN reports.

According to the General Police Inspectorate, this time the victims of the “relative involved in the accident” scam were two women, aged 76 and 78. They were phoned in the evening by an unknown man and told that they should pay large sums of money for their daughters not to be held accountable after causing car accidents.

In a few minutes, the scammers managed to con the victims out of about 360,000 lei.

The police call on the population to be cautious and not to allow to be manipulated by criminals, who target mainly older persons. “We urge the people to talk to their elderly parents or relatives about this kind of scam and, in order not to become victims of criminals, to immediately notify the police through the single emergency number 112,” said the General Police Inspectorate.
