Two inspectors of the National Public Health Agency (NPHA) are investigated in a case of passive corruption. According to the National Anticorruption Center, between March and August this year, the inspectors systematically asked and received from 2,000 to 10,000 lei in order to facilitate the obtaining of sanitary permits by economic agents, IPN reports.

More precisely, the officials formally organized inspections and drew up inspection reports without going to the spot. They also did not reflect the existing violations. Based on the drawn-up documents, the economic agents obtained a sanitary authorization for operation.

In Wednesday, NAC officers raided suspects’ homes, cars and offices, seizing evidence. The inspectors are investigated in a state of freedom.

The National Public Health Agency came with a public reaction, asking for the elucidation of the investigated cases and offering its support. “The NPHA vehemently condemns the acts of corruption among employees and reiterates the importance of complying with the provisions of the legislation, as well as the commitment to continue work in the spirit of transparency, fairness and responsibility,” reads a press release.
