The socialist Moldovan party “Patria-Rodina” (PSMPR) and the social-political movement “Ravnopravie” (MSPR) considers that the unfolding of NATO military applications on the territory of the R. Moldova infringes the neutrality principle and could lead to a destabilization of the situation concerning the Transnistrian conflict.
During a press conference held on Monday, September 4, the representatives of the two formations declared that the present leadership is infringing on the constitution, which stipulates the permanent neutrality of the R. Moldova. At the same time, according to Valentin Krilov, executive secretary of the PSMPR, by legalizing the temporary dislocation of foreign military troops on the territory of the RM, the current leadership is not consolidating the national security, but is, on the contrary, making it more vulnerable.
The representatives of the respective formations expressed their concern regarding the fact that the actions will take place at the shooting grounds at Bulboaca, close to the security zone. In their opinion, such actions destroy the statality of the R. Moldova and the last elements of trust between the sides engaged in the conflict, making the restarting of the negotiation process practically impossible.
Krilov also announced that PSMPR and MSPR have asked the Chisinau City Hall to authorize meetings of protest against the military applications in front of the state official buildings, but the local public administration refused on the grounds that the “actions follow the goal of putting the state in a bad light and encourage separatism”. The initiators have sued the City Hall for the decision, but the Chisinau Court of Appeal rejected the request.
A week ago, the Republican Popular Party (PPR) also expressed their opinion on this matter. According to this formation, the unfolding of NATO military maneuvers on the territory of the republic contravenes the stipulations of the constitution, according to which the R. Moldova is a neutral state under any conditions. At the same time, the PPR believe that the unfolding of such exercises offers further reasons to the unrecognized administration to the left of the Nistru to carry out the referendum on September 17 and can have negative consequences on the evolution of the conflict.
The NATO Cooperative Longbow/Lancer military applications will take place during the period September 11-29 on the shooting grounds at Bulboaca.
