Two young men were sentenced to 25 years and, respectively, 22 years in jail in the case of the double murder committed in Hiliuți. They were convicted as co-participants in burglary and intentional murder, IPN reports.
The Prosecutor General’s Office said that throughout the trial the perpetrators had been in remand detention. The court obliged the two to pay by 100,000 lei in respect of non-pecuniary damage to the three successors of the killed men.
Also, the court acquitted three persons prosecuted in this case over intentional murder because the deed wasn’t committed by them. The state prosecutors intend to challenge this sentence. But the three were found guilty of burglary and were sentenced to six to eight years in jail and were obliged to pay by 10,000 lei in respect of non-pecuniary damage to the three successors.
In March, the Fălești branch of the Bălți Court sentenced one of the co-participants in the Hiliuți homicide to 17 years behind bars for burglary and intentional murder. As the culprit fully admitted his guilt, the jail term limits in his case were reduced by one third.
The bodies of two men aged 25 and, respectively, 26 were found in a wooded area in the villa sector of Hiliuți village of Fălești district on November 4, 2021. Four suspects were arrested later. Two of them are professional athletes. The victims had been lured for an aftergame, following a card game in which the duo had won €3,000, reportedly by cheating. But the aftergame turned out to be only a pretext for the four suspected gangsters to exact their revenge. After being beaten with a crowbar, the two were loaded onto the trunk of a car and left on the village outskirts.
The sentence is not final and can be disputed in the Bălți Appeals Court within 15 days.
