Two candidates for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova on September 5 filed applications to the Central Election Commission (CEC), asking registering their initiate groups for collecting signatures in their support. The two are the independent candidates Ilie Rotaru and Vitalia Pavlichenko, IPN reports.

Within three days of the receipt of the submitted documents, the Commission will verify their accuracy and will decide whether to register the initiative groups or not.

Sixteen candidates for the October 30 presidential elections have applied to the CEC to have their initiative groups registered until now. The applicants have to present the subscription lists with at least 15,000 signatures collected by the members of the initiative groups to the central electoral authority by September 29. Only the Democratic Party’s candidate Marian Lupu has presented the subscription lists so far. Other candidates accused this of collecting the signatures with violations.
