Freestyle wrestlers Nicolae Ceban and Yevgheny Nedealco secured a ticket to the Rio Olympics in the qualification tournament held on Mongolia, IPN reports.
They both had to play by an additional match to see which of the bronze medalists will go to Rio the Janeiro. Nedealco, who is from Comrat, competed in the 74 kg class in which Alexandru Burca from Calarasi also had a nice performance in the previous qualifying tournament. Yevgheny started his adventure with a defeat before the future finalist, Bulgaria’s Georgi Ivanov. He then scored three clear victories against the representatives of Germany, Hungary and Ukraine. Thus, the athlete from Comrat qualified for the first Olympic Games in his career.
Nicolae Ceban will represent Moldova at the Olympic Games for the third time. The experience he gained helped him at the tournament in Mongolia, where he made his debut with two victories. In the semifinals, the athlete from Talmaz village of Stefan Voda district beat the future champion, Georghi Ketoev of the U.S., and then won two more games. The decisive match was against Mongolian athlete Dorjkhand, where Nicolae who by 9-4.
After the last qualifying tournament set to take place in Istanbul on May 6-8, only the first two ranked in each weight class will obtain tickets to Rio.
