Three people, two of whom are minors, needed medical care after they got poisoned with carbon monoxide emanated by a defective stove. It happened in Valea Perjei village of Cimislia district on Tuesday morning, IPN reports, with reference to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.
The Inspectorate noted that two girls aged 7 and 11, respectively, as well as a 65-year-old woman needed medical assistance. The persons were taken to the district hospital in a stable condition. When at the scene, employees of the Cimislia Rescue and Firefighting Unit determined that there was no fire there and the people got poisoned with fumes emanated by a defective stove. The circumstances of the case are yet to be established.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations warns the citizens to comply with the safety rules during the cold season when using stoves and other heating installations. People are asked to extinguish the fire in the stove before going to sleep and to periodically ventilate the rooms. Stoves must be checked before use.
Firefighters also urge the people not to block ventilation ducts so as to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Specialists warn that igniting fires with easily flammable liquids, such as gasoline or diesel fuel, is strictly prohibited. To avoid fires, combustible and easily flammable things must be kept away from stoves and heating installations.
