Two individuals who posed as grain buyers got 12 years and, respectively, eight years for causing damage of almost 14 million lei to over 50 farmers in 2018, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, the victims were cheated out of tens and hundreds of thousands of lei, some of them even of over 1.8 million lei after they sold sunflower seeds, corn and barley without receiving the money or only a part of it.
They acted in the name of three companies. The leader of the scheme aged 34 is from Comrat. He earlier served time in jail for burglary. The second man is 31 and is from Râșcani.
In most of the cases, the individuals purchased a particular quantity of grain – one or two trucks of grain – and then didn’t pay the next tranche. In one case, these negotiated and promised to pay for 90,000 kg of grain later, but didn’t pay anything.
At the request of prosecutors, property worth over 5 million lei owned by the individuals and the companies was sequestered. The scheme leader is also tried in other similar cases.
