The National Clinical Hospital “Timofei Moșneaga” and the Emergency Medicine Institute were offered medical equipment purchased with the financial support of the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The help came after a team of Japanese experts visited Moldovan hospitals, identifying together with doctors the needs to change the old equipment, IPN reports.
Eight operating tables and 13 stretchers (mobile) to the value of 60 million Japanese yen, which is equivalent to about €370,000, were delivered to the National Clinical Hospital “Timofei Moșneaga”. For the Emergency Medicine Institute, the donated batch includes five defibrillators and 16 stretchers (mobile), to the value of 30 million Japanese yen, which is equivalent to about €185,000.
Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco said it is very important to modernize the medical institutions. “It is a very serious contribution of the Japanese citizens who invest in the health of our people. It is important assistance in these very difficult times, when we are facing the impact of a war that is ongoing close to us,” noted the official.
Japan’s Ambassador to Moldova Yamada Yoichiro said that in 2022, with the arrival in the Republic of Moldova of Ukrainian refugees who fled the war, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) understood the enormous challenges faced by Moldova’s medical sector and sent a team of experts to identify the needs. Based on their reports, the Government of Japan decided to provide advanced medical equipment to five medical institutions in Chisinau. “Japan has been the Republic of Moldova’s partner in the healthcare sectors for many years. The Government of Japan is proud to work with Moldova and will continue to do so to support you on your journey to become a member of the European Union,” stated the diplomat.
The representative of JICA Ukraine Office Satoshi Sugimoto said that the JICA Office representatives have enormous respect for the care that Moldovan doctors have provided to refugees from Ukraine. He voiced hope that the medical equipment will help the doctors.
Andrei Uncuța, director of the National Clinical Hospital “Timofei Moșneaga”, noted that the batch of equipment donated to the institution will help improve the quality of medical assistance and the patients will enjoy high-quality care. Given the developments in the region, providing the institution with operating tables that are extremely necessary to ensure the surgical procedures is a very important thing.
Diana Manea, deputy medical director of the Emergency Medicine Institute, said that the 16 stretchers and five defibrillators are part of the first technological facilities that will help open the operating block. It is a new block that will facilitate the application of new technologies to save fellow citizens and refugees.
In November 2022, a Grant Agreement to the total value of about €7 million was signed between the Ministry of Health and the Japan International Cooperation Agency for the implementation of the Health System Strengthening Program. Thus, with the nonreimbursable financial support provided by the Government of Japan, five public medical and sanitary institutions of Moldova are equipped with state-of-the-art medical devices. The institutions are: National Clinical Hospital “Timofei Moșneaga”, Emergency Medicine Institute, Cancer Institute, Mother and Child Institute, and Municipal Clinical Hospital “Saint Trinity”.
