Two exhibitions, which will highlight the cultural heritage of the capital, will open over the course of the European Heritage Days, a series of cultural events that are currently in progress in Moldova. The announcement was made at an IPN press conference by Ion Ștefăniță, the general director of the Agency for Inspection, Restoration of Monuments.
According to Ion Ștefăniță, the theme of this year's edition of "European Heritage Days" is "Arts and Entertainment". "Every year, during the third part of September, millions of citizens from all over Europe are invited to visit historical monuments or to take part in cultural heritage events", said Ion Ștefăniță.
The "Chișinău - past, present and future" exhibition, one of the cultural events, will take place starting at 13:00 on September 25, at the Chișinău City Museum. According to Ion Ștefăniță, the other event that aims to inform about the cultural heritage is the "Chișinău, historical retrospective, architecture, heritage and culture" exhibition, which will take place at the Brâncuși Exhibition Center, on September 25, starting at 15:00.
The AIRM director urged several Moldovan institutions to raise awareness about cultural heritage. Ion Ștefăniță appealed "School institutions, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research and the Education Department of Chișinău municipality to introduce the topic of cultural heritage into the school curriculum, within the framework of civic education and history". He fondly recalled how he first got acquainted with the subject via French textbooks.
In this regard, the AIRM director said that he made an official request to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research with the proposal to introduce compulsory cultural heritage subjects to high school and university curricula. "Education starts at school and within the family," said Ion Ștefăniță.
The European Heritage Days are held from September 10 to October 12, while the events are organized with the support of the Council of Europe and the European Union.
