Two electoral contenders –the Professionals’ Movement “Speranța-Nadejda” and the Ecologist Green Party – promise to ardently fight corruption if they enter the next Parliament. The Movement’s leader Andrei Donica said capital punishment should be introduced at state level so as to root out corruption, IPN reports.
“We do not scare now the MPs, ministers, judges with jail terms of 5-7 years. They have by ten relatives among judges and prosecutors. (...) Many innocent people stay in jails. These got by five years for stealing a stereo worth 100 lei. I didn’t see prosecutors, judges staying in prison,” Andrei Donică stated in electoral debates on TVR Moldova channel.
Andrei Donică said the capital punishment can help bring thing in the country in order during a year and then Moldova could develop from all viewpoints.
Vitalie Marinuță, of the Ecologist Green Party, said the punishments for corruption should be made harsher, especially for high-ranking officials. Also, the party aims to improve the legislation on corruption fighting so that this meets the European norms. “The most important thing is to educate the citizens of the Republic of Moldova not to tolerate corruption,” he stated.
The representatives of the parties also said that among their priorities in the new legislature are the declassification of the Kroll report and the serious investigation of the banking fraud.
The next parliament tray elections will take place on February 24, 2019. These will be held based on the mixed system, when the MPs are elected according to party lists and in single-member constituencies.
