The nursery school and the secondary school in Gaidar village of Ceadar-Lunga district were closed because a high number of acute respiratory infections was recorded there. Contacted by IPN, epidemiologist of the district Public Health Center Victor Vornicov said the number of infected children in Gaidar is decreasing, but the number of infected people in the district remains high. According to him, the situation is under control.

Victor Vornicov noted that the nursery school was closed on January 30, after 54 children of the 182 fell ill. The school was closed two days later, after 82 of the 270 students became sick. Most of the children are receiving treatment at home and none of them was diagnosed with flu.

The authorities decided to close the two institutions for a week initially, but the period could be extended. Most probably, the nursery will be reopened next Monday, but it’s not known when the school is reopened.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health, the morbidity of acute respiratory infections during the last week of January was 279 cases per 100,000. There were confirmed 155 cases of AH1N1 flu and one case of type B flu.
