Two student dormitories will be extensively revamped next year. One of the dorms belongs to the Moldova State University, while the other one to “Ion Creangă” State Teacher Training University, Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun stated in a press conference, being quoted by IPN.

The minister said that investments for each dorm will amount to €2 million. The two dormitories are intended primarily for students studying teaching.

Dan Perciun reminded that 23 million lei was allocated in October for repairing student dormitories of five universities. This way, each institution next year will invest up to 5 million lei to modernize dormitories and provide decent conditions for students.

The minister said that thanks to the World Bank’s support, €25 million could be allocated for modernizing seven national universities and six teacher-training colleges. The money is provided for renovation, equipment and improvement of the quality of studies.

“In technical vocational education, 35 million lei was allocated for the renovation of educational institutions. So, again, these are capital investments aimed mainly at modernizing the equipment and improving the conditions of study,” noted Minister Perciun.

According to him, attracting young teachers to the system was a priority for the Ministry. In this regard, the scholarships for students of teacher-training departments were doubled at the end of this year and will be almost 3,500 lei as from January 1, 2024.
