The Board of the Ministry of Education discharged the head of the Chisinau Ecology College Dumitru Danu and the head of the Hancesti Technical Constructions College Iurie Cociu following a report made public by the Audit Office, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The decision to dismiss the two directors was taken by an open vote. It was mainly based on the report of the Audit Office, which identified serious violations in managing the financial resources,” said Minister of Education Mihail Shleahtitski.
The two persons can continue teaching. “We don’t know yet what decisions will be taken by the Prosecutor’s Office and the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime as they are investigating the irregularities identified by the Audit Office,” said the minister.
He also said that a warning was given to the Trade College of the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova. “The College was warned, not yet its director, who was recently named to post as a result of a contest,” said Mihail Shleahtitski. The other institutions examined by the Audit Office were warned and reprimanded.
Several months ago, the Audit Office discovered irregularities at eight national colleges. In 2010, they obtained incomes illegally and misused the money allocated for student awards. The financial irregularities total several million lei.
Some of the colleges admitted more students than the sanitary certificate allows and unjustifiably increased the monthly student dorm fee.
