The parents of twins Yanis and Rares, who remained without eyesight during the first days of life, call on those who can to donate money for a surgery that will help the children regain sight. The operation can be performed in a clinic in the United States, IPN reports.

The fundraising campaign is organized by the association “Save a Heart”. In a communiqué, the association says the twins were born prematurely, at the 32nd week of pregnancy, and lived in incubators for 43 days. The increased heat in the incubators affected the retinas of the two children. Doctors diagnosed the twins with retinopathy of prematurity, stages 4 and 5.

Romanian doctors helped one of the boys regain partially sight on the right eye, but in the case of the other child the complications are greater and the doctors in Romania can do nothing for him. Before the surgery, the twins must undergo health checks at a clinic in Rome, Italy. An examination costs €550. Thus, the parents need over €2,000 to cover all the costs, inkling the transportation of the kids. Afterward, the children will be operated in the United States. A surgery on one eye costs €17,500.

“Our association carried out four campaigns to collect money for children suffering from retinopathy and they all were successful. The children recovered partially their sight,” said Vlad Placinta, who heads the association “Save a Heart”. For more details and donations, Vlad Plaqcinta can be contacted on 0752753540.
