Two schoolchildren attending the same school have been hospitalized with various injuries caused in traffic accidents on Wednesday. Road Safety Inspector of the Chisinau Traffic Police Ion Roscovanu told Info-Prim Neo that both accidents took place after 3 PM with a difference of 20 minutes. A 7th grade student of Matei Basarab Lyceum was violently hit by an Audi-80 while trying to cross Studentilor Street. The boy was admitted to Valentin Ignatenco Hospital with multiple traumas. The second case involved an 8-year-old pupil of the same school, who was hit by a GAZ-2110 on 5 Miorita Street. Preliminary investigations showed that the boy suffered soft tissue contusions. While drunk, a 42-year old man tried to cross Traian Boulevard and was hit by a trolleybus. The victim was admitted to the Emergency Hospital with multiple traumas. Another accident, involving a trolleybus occurred at the intersection of the streets Mihai Kogalniceanu and Sfatul Tarii. A Renault-Clio, driven by a 29-year old man, collided with the trolleybus. The collision resulted in injuries for the car’s passenger, a woman aged 28, who suffered key-bone fracture. On Thursday, the capital’s Road Police launched the “Pedestrian” special operation which will last until March 26. Its aim is to reduce the number of traffic accidents involving pedestrians, because of the alarming statistics the police have been recording lately. Thus, from the beginning of the year 149 such accidents were recorded, resulting in 8 deaths and 169 injured people, including 32 minors. Pedestrians are responsible for 53 accidents, which caused 7 deaths and 49 wounded people. Given this data, the road police will also pay attention to the protection of children on the capital’s roads. Thus, traffic agents will supervise some of the educational institutions located close to the roadway, in the morning and after classes.
