Two cars with 100 Romanian students have been waiting for permission to cross the Giurgiulesti-Reni customs post to Ukraine since 6 am. They head for Hagi Curda village in Odessa region to take part in a ceremony to bless a Romanian church.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, George Simion, a member of the Civic Platform “Action 2012”, who is on one of the two buses, said the Ukrainian authorities did not provide explanations as to why the vehicles were stopped. There was no electric power at the Reni customs post during the first two hours, though there was no problem on the Moldova side, in Giurgiulesti. Afterward, customs officials took their passports for checks. “We have been waiting for over four hours. The Ukrainian authorities tell us nothing. Every time, the driver says we will be leaving in ten minutes, but we are still here,” said George Simion.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Romania was informed about this case, but no answer has come yet, added George Simion.
The Civic Platform “Action 2012” is an organization consisting of representatives of civil society from the two banks of the Prut River and of initiative groups that are in favor of Moldova’s union with Romania.
