Twenty-nine persons hospitalized after September 7 wedding party

A number of 29 persons of the 140 who took part in a wedding party at a restaurant in Chisinau on September 9 were in the hospital in Chisinau and Ungheni with food poisoning in the evening of September 9. On September 8, one of the invitees to the party aged 38, who was a doctor by profession, died two hours after he was admitted to the Ungheni District Hospital in a coma.

Contacted by IPN, director of the Ungheni District Hospital Maria Rotaru said that 21 invitees of that wedding party were hospitalized with food poisoning on September 8. A man died. Three persons came to the hospital with the same symptoms on September 9. The state of the patients is serious, but stable. There are no children among them.

The number of persons with food poisoning hospitalized at the Infectious Diseases Hospital “Toma Ciorba” in Chisinau rose from three to six, said the institution’s head Victor Deatisen.

On September 9, the Rascani Prosecutor’s Office of Chisinau ordered starting a criminal case over the keeping, sale and provision of dangerous products and services that resulted in the death of a person. Press officer of the General Prosecutor’s Office Maria Vieru said it is for the first time that a criminal case was started over mass food poisoning.
