Twenty newly purchased trolleybuses will be running on the streets of the capital city as from March 2. During a year, the municipality aims to buy 100 trolleybuses and as many buses, both new and used, IPN reports.
Mayor Ion Ceban said that ten of these trolleybuses are new and were assembled with parts made in Belarus at the workshop of the Chisinau Electric Transport Company. The other ten, used trolleybuses, of the “Skoda” make, were bought in Riga, Latvia. The units of transport will run on routes No. 10, 17, 13, 2, 4, 22, 21.
“In a year or a year and a half, we will most probably have 100 trolleybuses. We have similar plans in relation to the buses. The international tender contest to purchase buses is rerun and the announcement is published in the Official Journal of the European Union. But we are also considering of attracting other schemes and instruments, including the assembly of the units of transport,” stated Ion Ceban.
The mayor noted that the minibuses will be able to run and transport passengers if they ensure comfort and safety. Currently, these conditions are not met.
The director and vice director of the Chisinau Electric Transport Company didn’t attend the ceremony to put the 20 trolleybuses on routes as they were diagnosed with COVID-19, as Ion Ceban stated.
