The Romanian public television channel TVR 1 might be transmitted again in Moldova. The Moldovan authorities started to consider such a possibility after Romanian President Traian Basescu raised this issue while on a visit in Chisinau late in January, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase informed about the possibility of TVR 1 reappearing in Moldova at a briefing on March 26. He said the case of TVR1 will be soon examined by the European Court of Human Rights.
Alexandru Tanase also said that the necessary documents were submitted to Prime Minister Vlad Filat and the channel could be received in Moldova in two months.
The Broadcasting Coordination Council put the frequencies used to transmit TVR1in Moldova up for contest in 2007, at the request of the Ministry of Information Development. It argued that the Romanian Television Society did not fulfill its financial obligations to the state-run operator IS “Radiocomunicatii”. The same year, the Council granted the license for the state network No. 2 to the TV channel 2 Plus, though the Romanian Television Society said it cleared its debts meanwhile.
