TV services in digital format gain in popularity

The number of users of multi-channel TV services last year rose slightly on 2011. According to the ICT regulator ANRCETI, the rise was mainly due to an increase in the number of subscribers to TV services in digital format. Over a year, the number of these subscribers grew by 23,100 (28.8%) to 103,300, IPN reports.

The subscribers to multi-channel TV services increased in number by 28,700 (11.2%) to over 284,800. The number of subscribers to multi-channel TV services through IPTV over a year rose to 46,800, through satellite networks (DTH) – to 7,700, while through cable networks to 227,400. Thus, the multi-channel TV services penetration rate per 100 people increased by 0.81% to 8%. 

At the same time, the incomes earned from the provision of multi-channel TV services fell by 2.7% on 2011 to 166.8 million lei. The cable TV providers reported a 16.7% decrease in revenues, to 102.6 million lei. As a result, the average monthly revenue per user of the multi-channel TV operators declined by 12.2% to 51.6 lei. Practically all the operators reported an ARPU lower than the mentioned figure.

Among the 130 operators working on the multi-channel TV services market in 2012, SRL Sun Communications had a market share of 32.6% by turnover, SA Moldtelecom – of 23.8%, SRL Focus sat – of 7.3%, while SRL AMT – of 4.4%. The other operators had together a share of 32%.
