TV channels unable to broadcast animated cartoons because they cannot dub them

The directors of a number of TV channels said they have to withdraw the animated cartoons from the broadcast schedule as they are unable to dub them as provided by the Broadcasting Code, Info-Prim Neo reports. The chairman of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) Marian Pocaznoi said that last September the Council gave time to the broadcasters for complying with the Broadcasting Code, which says that the movies and documentaries must be subtitled or dubbed into the official language and that the animated cartoons must be dubbed into Romanian. In the January 17 meeting, the BCC examined the monitoring reports of a number of TV channels. “The situation has improved as regards the subtitling of the movies in Romanian, not yet the dubbing of animated cartoons. The little ones cannot read the subtitles. Thus, the cartoons must be dubbed into Romanian,” said Marian Pocaznoi. In Moldova, there is no dubbing studio. A number of directors of TV channels said they have to abandon airing animated cartoons as they cannot comply with the Broadcasting Code. The BCC members recommended them to broadcast animated cartoons produced in Romania, which are in Romanian. The Council issued public warnings against the broadcasters that neither subtitle nor dub the movies. Some of the TV directors said they encountered technical problems, while others said they could not fined skilled translators. Some of the terms, like those used in pictures about doctors, are translated incorrectly, while some of the humorous situations become aberrations in translation. The BCC demanded maintaining the quality of the translations as the public use the expressions heard on TV. The TV channels will continue to be monitored.
