Journalists should take into account not only the deontological standards, but also the correctness and beauty of the Romanian language because the spoken language is the expression of our internal state, member of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) Mariana Onceanu-Hadarca stated for IPN when she was contacted in connection with Our Language Day. She noted that most of linguistic mistakes on TV channels are made in subtitles to movies.

The BCC member thinks the TV channels that respect themselves and the public should mandatorily ensure the correctness of language. The correctness of the spoken and written language in broadcasting had been monitored during three years in a row, in 2012, 2013 and 2014. During the last two years, such monitoring wasn’t performed because these were electoral years with another kind of monitoring.

“The monitoring we conducted in this regard until now was like a sign of alarm warning the journalists to take care of the linguistic aspect. We should perform new monitoring and compare the results with what was there earlier,” stated Mariana Onceanu-Hadarca. The BCC is considering the financial possibilities of the broadcasters support fund for paying the team of experts who would make the study.
