Turnout of voters nationwide at 7 p.m. was 40%

Some 40% of the voting-eligible population took part in the elections by 7 p.m., the chairwoman of the Central Election Commission Angela Caraman stated in a press briefing.

The turnout of voters in Pocrovca village of Dondușeni district was the highest, of over 77%. In Chioselia Rusă village of the ATU Gagauzia, the turnout was of only 5% of the persons eligible to vote.

The turnout in the municipality of Chisinau at 7 p.m. was of over 39%. In the municipality’s suburbs, over 41% of the voting-age citizens cast their ballots. The voters in Condrița village were the most active ones, with a turnout of over 51%, while the voters in Bubuieci commune were the least active ones, with a turnout of less than 36%.

In the municipality of Balti, the turnout of voters was 37%, while in Comrat – of 39%.


In nine loclaities, the turnout was under 25%, which is less than the election thesdhold. If the percentage does not rise, the elections there will be invalidated.

Angela Caraman noted that when the polls close, the electoral functionaries, in the presence of observers and representatives of election contenders, will start to count the votes and to tabulate the resuts.

So far, the CEC was informed about 220 cases of violations or incidents and 65 of these were cases of campaigning, which is banned on elections day, four were cases of unauthorized placing of campaign posters, 50 were cases of organized transportation of voters, 11 were situations of reasonable suspicion of voter corruption, two were cases of hampering of the exercise of the right to elect or hampering of the work of the electoral body and these will be investigated as criminal offenses.

During the day, the CEC received 11 complaints and one challenge. These mainly referred to campaigning on election day.

Polls close at 9 p.m. The electoral bureau of the polling place can decide to extend the voting time for at most two hours so as to enable all the electors who are in the polling station at 9 p.m. to vote.
