The voter turnout in the presidential election passed the 10% mark. Thus, by about 10:30 a.m., over 275,000 votes were cast in the presidential election. In Chisinau municipality, the participation rate exceeded 8.8%, which means that about 57,000 citizens voted, IPN reports.

In the country, the women remain more active in the voting process and the ratio of women and to men was 50.73% to 49.27%.

Most of the voters, 26.11%, were aged between 56 and 65. This age category is followed by citizens aged 66-75 years – 23.08%, followed by voters aged 46-55 – 17.90%, 36-45 years – 14.81%, 26-35 years – 8.34%. Less active remain those in the age category of 76 years+ – 5.01%, but these outstripped the young people aged between 18 and 25 years, whose turnout was 4.75%.

It is essential that voter turnout reaches the minimum threshold. For the presidential election, this is at least one third of the total number of voters put on electoral rolls. If this threshold is not reached, the elections will be declared invalid and a new election will have to be held. In the case of the runoff vote, for the election to be considered valid, the turnout must be at least 1/5 of the voters on electoral rolls.
