After riding a distance of over 3,000 kilometers, Turkish cyclist Gurkan Genc arrived in Moldova. He intends to go around the world by bike in seven years. During his journey, he will visit over 80 countries on five continents. His itinerary will be of about 110,000 kilometers, Info-Prim Neo reports. Gurkan Genc told a news conference that through his project “Ride for the Future”, he wants to enter the World Guinness Records book and to send messages about an active and healthy life, especially to young people. The cyclist said that in 2010 he went on a tour between Turkey and Japan, which included 11 countries and 950 towns and villages, and took 15,000 pictures in 11 months. His journey can be watched on the Internet. Gurkan Genc opened a website where he posts all the photographs and videos made during his trip. He also made two movies that are competing in international festivals. Currently, he writes a book that will be published in five languages. Asked if he liked something special in Moldova, Gurkan Genc said that the national roads in Moldova are mainly without security tracks for cyclists and have many slopes and inclines. But there are many beautiful forests that create a wonderful landscape. He said that he never saw so many forests in a country. He also liked the homemade wine that is better than the wine served in restaurants, as he considers. Besides wanting to enter the World Guinness Records, Gurkan Genc also wants to promote the bicycle as an ecological means of transport, especially because many large towns do not have tracks for cyclists.
