The Technical University of Moldova’s (TUM) Space Technology Center has presented the first nanosatellite made in our country.
Called TUMnanoSAT, the device will be transmitted to the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency JAXA before being being launched into space with a SpaceX flight.
“We are capable of developing technologies, and the Ministry of Economy intends to provide support and direct resources in the field of innovation and technology to connect the scientific community with economic development”, Economy Minister Sergiu Gaibu stated during the satellite’s presentation conference.
“This is a project with a major impact in improving the quality of engineering studies based on modern space technologies, attracting young people to develop and strengthen scientific research in the field of space exploration and integration of Moldova in the community of countries developing space technologies”, said TUM rector Viorel Bostan. “Everything was born from a dream and today this dream has come true. TUM will continue to make use of these aspirations, contributing to the creation of a modern platform for the development of space technologies”, added the rector.
Representing a cube of edge 10cm and weighing 1.15 kg, TUMnanoSAT was designed, built and tested from June 2019 to October 2021. It’s an educational and research satellite that will help in the study of solar energy, among other tasks.
