As from today, the lyceum or college graduates can file applications to be admitted to universities in the Republic of Moldova. At some of the institutions, the budget-funded places risk not being filled, while at others there are 17 candidates per place.
Contacted by IPN for details, Larisa Sadovei, secretary general of the admission commission of the State Teacher Training University “Ion Creangă”, said that unlike last year, when admission was online, this year admission to their university is both online and with physical presence. All their teachers were vaccinated against COVID-19 in an organized way. This year they propose 450 state budget-funded places for graduate, Bachelor’s studies and 335 places for Master’s studies. An unlimited number of students can be admitted on a contract basis, with tuition that varies from 3,500 to 6,500 lei.
At the Technical University of Moldova (UTM), there are 6-17 candidates per place and tuition fees are higher this year. Radu Melnic, secretary of the admission commission, said admission this year is both online and with physical presence. This year UTM offers 1,357 budget-funded places for Bachelor’s studies and 597 places for Master’s studies. Tuition was raised after being the same for six years in a row and varies between 9,500 and 13,500 lei, as opposed to 8,500 lei and 11,500 lei earlier.
Tuition fees at “Nicolae Testemițanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy this year oscillate between 19,000 lei and 33,000 lei. Vladislav Badan, secretary of the admission commission, said they provide 885 places for Moldovan citizens and over half of these are budget-funded ones. They organized admission online as last year it turned out to be efficient. The demographic situation in the country is worrisome as the number of lyceum or college graduates decreases annually and, consequently, the number of candidates at universities will also be lower.
