The tubes used to collect household solid waste in some of the apartment buildings in Chisinau haven’t been sealed up yet even if the Municipal Council adopted a decision to this effect back last February. Contacted by IPN for a comment, the head of the Territorial Development and Cleanup Section of the Public Amenities Division Vasile Efros said they are still working on the logistic part of the process. External waste collection platforms will be set up and containers will be placed there. Afterward, the tubes will be closed.

According to Vasile Efros, the process is long-lasting as some of the dwellers agreed to having the tubes closed, but then changed their mind. “Last year they agreed and the placing schemes were prepared. Later, signatures against were collected and the process was suspended,” explained the functionary.

There are about 1,700 waste collection tubes in Chisinau at present. Last year, there were set up 55 external waste collection platforms. In at least 45 apartment buildings, the tubes were to be sealed up by now, but the dwellers expressed their disagreement with the location of the platforms and re-planning was needed.

“Work is now done on the logistic part and when this is completed, the containers will be placed and the tubes will be closed,” stated Vasile Efros.

A sum of 5 million lei was earmarked in the municipal budget this year for continuing the project.
