Fiodor Ghelici, the president of the civil association “Moldova Mea” (“My Moldova”) and also the director of a transportation firm, threatens he will use his trucks to block the main roads in Chisinau unless he receives permit for shipping cargo abroad, Info-Prim Neo reports.
At a news conference on Monday, Ghelici accused a number of institutions of corruption practices when issuing export certificates, and among them the Ministry of Transport and Road Management, the National Agency for International Transportation, and also politicians.
“Although there are many goods that need to be exported abroad, the Moldovan carriers are unable to do that because they lack the necessary papers. The National Agency for International Transportation claims it has run out of such certificates, yet these are sold at the black market for ten times their actual price, around 150 euros apiece”, said Ghelici.
In July the leader of Moldova Mea said he would protest in Chisinau's central square by setting fire to several trucks which were used in carrying new Dacia Logans from Romania to Ukraine, arguing that the Minister of Transport and Road Management had refused to issue the firm with the necessary papers with no good reason. The demonstration was eventually thwarted by the police, when Ghelici was arrested, detained for one night, and fined 20 lei (some $2) for disturbing the public order.
