The manager and the driver of a transport company that in April 2022 didn’t declare US$240,000 and €8,000 at the customs post were sentenced to four years in jail each. According to the sentence passed by the Cahul court, the truck that was to get to Turkey and in which the undeclared money was hidden was confiscated for having been used in smuggling, IPN reports.
The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases said the court rejected the request to confiscate the amounts of money for the benefit of the state. According to prosecutors, such a decision is against the law and the judicial practice and the part of the sentence concerning the money will be this way challenged.
The culprits are from Chisinau and are aged 47 and, respectively, 51. The two will be in the custody of the state until the judgment becomes final.
