A truck caught fire while in motion because of a short circuit.
Liliana Puscasu of the Fire & Rescue Dept. has told Info-Prim Neo that the fire erupted in the engine compartment. The truck was heading for Valcinet village when the driver noticed smoke and flames coming out of the hood. The cab burned heavily, but the rest of the vehicle was saved by Calarasi crews.
Children playing with matches were to blame for two fires yesterday. The first accident occurred in Petresti village, Ungheni district, where a burning match left carelessly by a 4-year-old boy sparked a fire in the household's barn. An Ungheni fire crew put out the blaze before it spread to the nearby house and garage. Another farm building in Lelina village, Soldanesti, burst into flames because of children playing with fire.
A burning cigarette was the cause of a house fire in Balti city. The owner of the house was aroused early this morning at 5:00 because of thick smoke pouring out of the room of her 33-year-old nephew. The smolder was extinguished thanks to the prompt reaction of Balti firefighters, who saved the man's life and the house.
Yesterday, 6 fires were recorded across Moldova. From the beginning of the year, fires have destroyed 120 buildings and 58 vehicles.
