The new trolleybuses brought from Belarus for the municipality of Chisinau were exempted from customs duties. A relevant bill was passed by the parliamentary majority on April 21, Info-Prim Neo reports. During the discussions on the bill, Liberal lawmaker Valeriu Munteanu criticized the Government for attributing to itself the merit for purchasing the trolleybuses as the initiative was put forward by the mayor of Chisinau. For his part, the leader of the Liberal-Democratic group Mihai Godea accused Valeriu Munteanu of propaganda. “Everything that was said from the rostrum is sheer propaganda. It does not help achieve welfare in the municipality of Chisinau,” said Mihai Godea. The legislative initiative approved by the Parliament is to be promulgated as a matter or urgency by the Acting President. On Friday, April 22, it will be published in the Official Gazette. Earlier, Dorin Chirtoaca promised that the trolleybuses will start to run in Chisinau before Easter. The Chisinau administration bought 102 trolleybuses from the Belarusian plant Belkommunmash within a €13 million project to modernize the public units of transport in the municipality of Chisinau. The project is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank, and the European Union. Twenty-five of the trolleybuses were brought to Chisinau. The others will be delivered by June 1.
