Trolleybus route No. 22 to be extended

The trolleybuses No. 22 will run up to the City's Gates in Chisinau's Botanica district from May 5. Such a decision was taken because the number of passengers increased significantly after the new trolleybuses bought from Belarus started to run in the capital city, Info-Prim Neo reports. In the May 3 meeting of City Hall officials, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the route will be extended on a trial basis. “If the move turns out to be effective, the route will become permanent,” he stated. Gheorghe Morgoci, director of the Chisinau Electric Transport Company, said that the number of passengers traveling by trolleybuses No. 22 rose by 15%. “A sum of 169 lei is now collected every hour, as against 140 lei earlier,” he informed. After all the 102 trolleybuses purchased from the Minsk plant are delivered to Chisinau, there will be at least one route involving new vehicles in every sector of Chisinau. Commenting on the fact that four of the new trolleybuses broke immediately after they started to run, Dorin Chirtoaca said the appearance of glitches in the adaption period is inevitable. Twenty-three of the 26 trolleybuses running on route No. 22 are new.
