The World Bank is ready to provide support for the works to develop the local roads in Moldova by financing a project to the value of about US$30 million. Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Vasile Botnari discussed the cooperation plan with Tamara Sulukhia, World Bank Sustainable Development Sector Leader for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Ministry.
Vasile Botnari informed that the Ministry launched the preparations for implementing a large-scale project to repair local roads in 2014. A sum of 390 million lei was allocated from the Road Fund for the purpose. “For the first time we managed to identity the internal financial resources needed to repair roads between villages and to ensure the residents’ access to the main social facilities. But we need the support of the development partners to make greater progress in this respect,” he stated.
For her part, Tamara Sulukhia announced that the objective of her visit to Moldova is to follow attentively the aspects concerning the implementation of the sustainable development portfolio in transport and other areas, including the rehabilitation of local roads.
The officials also discussed possibilities of hastening the procedures needed to sign the financing agreement with the World Bank so as to carry out works on the road infrastructure in Moldova.
