A woman from the Transnistrian region complained about the violation of the right to life to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). According to a communiqué from the public association Promo-LEX, the woman’s son Alexandru Stomatii was found dead when doing his service in the Transnistrian paramilitary forces. Suicide is the official version, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Promo-LEX, Alexandru Stomatii was drafted into the paramilitary forces in Bender on July 29, 2009, against his will. Afterward, he was transferred to a military unit in Rybnitsa district. There, the young man had problems with some of his superiors and was threatened with death. For this reason, at his mother’s request, Alexandru Stomatii was transferred to the military unit in Camenca district. In a year, the woman was informed by phone that her son was found dead. Afterward, the woman found out that her son died from a shot in the neck and another one in the right forearm. Representatives of the regional administration said it was suicide. The young man’s family filed a complaint against the then leader of the Transnistrian region Igor Smirnov. They asked starting a criminal case over the murder of the young man. In a period, the woman lodged a complaint with central Moldovan authorities, including Moldova’s President, the prosecutor general, the Government of Moldova, and the ombudsperson, and to embassies working in Moldova, among which the Russian one, asking that they intervene. As no reaction followed, the woman appealed to the ECHR. The case to the ECHR is against Moldova and Russia.
