The implementation of the Transnistrian region’s decision to ban motor vehicles with Moldovan license plates from passing through the checkpoints on the Transnistrian segment of the border with Ukraine was suspended, the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky announced in a meeting with the OSCE Special Representative for the Transnistrian Settlement Process Thomas Mayr-Harting, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the de facto Transnistrian ministry of foreign affairs.
According to Vadim Krasnoselsky, the ban was lifted given that the Moldovan side also suspended its decision applying to motor vehicles with Transnistrian or neutral-design license plates.
In another development, he noted that the negotiation process between Chisinau and Tiraspol in 2019, which was an active electoral year for Moldova, switched from a compromise move based on reasonable pragmatism towards each other to stagnation, with Moldova showing clear signs that it wants to suspend or even destroy the “permanent meeting” format. The Moldovan side didn’t fulfill a significant number of obligations undertaken as a result of the previous agreements.
Vadim Krasnoselsky requested Ambassador Thomas Mayer-Harting to help to swiftly release the Transnistrian citizen Andrei Samonia, who is held by the Moldovan security forces.
The de facto foreign affairs minister of Transnistria Vitaly Ignatiev also referred to this issue. “We think it is unacceptable to exert pressure on the people, to kidnap them and to politicize these processes. We requested the OSCE to help clarify this situation and to accelerate the release of Mister Samonia,” he stated.
